2021 COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS

CIO Tomorrow will be following safety protocols based on CDC and local guidance.

For the safety of all attendees, masks or face-coverings will be required.

Additionally, the Columbus Business First staff will not be in attendance if they have tested positive for Covid-19, do not feel well, or have been exposed to anyone who has Covid or Covid-like symptoms within the past 14 days, and expect all event attendees to do the same.

In your attendance, you acknowledge that you are aware of the risks involved with attending this event during the COVID-19 pandemic and acknowledge that you are choosing to do so voluntarily.

Furthermore, you agree to waive and release Columbus Business First, American City Business Journals, Inc. or the Hyatt Regency Columbus from liability for any claim, including any claim related to Covid-19.

Battelle

Lewis “Lou” Von Thaer was appointed President and CEO of Battelle, the world’s largest independent research and development organization, in 2017. Formed in 1925 as a charitable trust and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Battelle delivers technology solutions for the national security, healthcare, energy, and environmental markets.

Previously, Lou was CEO of DynCorp International and held positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, General Dynamics and Leidos, Inc. as President of the company’s National Security Sector.

Lou holds a BS in electrical engineering from Kansas State University and a MS in electrical engineering from Rutgers University.

He serves as board chair of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, UT-Battelle (operator of Oak Ridge National Laboratory) and National Veterans Memorial and Museum, Ambri, and American Electric Power. He is a member of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees where he serves on three committees: Audit, Finance and Investment, Research, Innovation & Strategic Partnerships, and Talent, Compensation and Governance. He also serves on the advisory board of the American Council for Capital Formation.

Lou also is a member of the Ohio Business Roundtable and the Columbus Partnership Executive Committee.

CINDY LEAVITT

Vice President & CIO
The Ohio State University

Cindy Leavitt is the CIO and Vice President at The Ohio State University. At Ohio State, she is responsible for the vision, budgeting, design, implementation, and operation of information systems in support of the university's strategies and objectives. She also has oversight of the distance education and learning technology at the university.

Cindy has a unique and broad perspective because she has worked for high tech companies in addition to academic institutions and has been a leader of both central campus and school IT groups.

Prior to Ohio State, she served as vice president and CIO at Temple University and in deputy chief information officer roles at the University of Michigan.

Cindy is passionate about creating empowered and innovative teams. She is fully committed to being an authentic and positive leader who practices what she preaches and leads by example. She cherishes the deep relationships that she has been able to build with her teams and colleagues.

Cindy earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in statistics/business and an MBA degree at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

TIM RADERSTORF

AndHealth

Dr. Tim Raderstorf is thrilled to be the Talent Partner for AndHealth, a healthcare startup focused on helping people reclaim their lives from chronic illness. He holds volunteer positions as the Head of Academic Entrepreneurship at the Erdős Institute, the Chief Operating Officer of the non-profit NursesEverywhere, and is a member of the American Nurses Association’s Innovation Advisory Board. In his previous role, Tim was the Chief Innovation Officer at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. From TED talks to textbooks, Tim uses every platform he can find to empower those at the frontlines to change healthcare.

As the first nurse to hold the Chief Innovation Officer title in academia, he takes pride in educating the world on the role of the nurse as an innovator. He is the founder of the Innovation Studio, a makerspace that democratizes innovation, providing every interprofessional team that pitches their innovation with the funding, tools, and mentorship needed to turn ideas into actions.

Throughout his career, Tim has founded multiple businesses and has been the first employee for a profitable healthcare startup. His new textbook co-authored with Bern Melnyk, Evidence-Based Leadership, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Nursing and Healthcare: A Practical Guide for Success, was a #1 new release on Amazon and the American Journal of Nursing’s Management & Leadership Book of the Year. Some of Tim’s recognitions include the Early Career Innovator of the Year and Distinguished Recent Alumni at the Ohio State University, the Innovation Studio being named Non-Profit of the year by Columbus Business First in 2019, and he was most recently inducted into the 2020 Class of 40 under 40 by Columbus Business First and as a 2021 Fellow at the American Academy of Nursing.

KENNY McDONALD

President & CEO
Columbus Partnership

Kenny McDonald serves as the third president and CEO of the Columbus Partnership, a civic organization of Columbus’ top business leaders. The Partnership was founded in 2002 to improve the economic and cultural base of Central Ohio. McDonald is responsible for leading strategies focused on diversity and equity, growth and development, and business and civic innovation, in order for the Columbus Region to achieve its vision to become the most prosperous metropolitan area in the United States.

He brings more than 25 years of experience working with metropolitan economies in Savannah, Georgia;, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Charlotte, North Carolina. He also spent seven years as a global site location advisor for Fluor Corporation.

McDonald has been named one of the Top 50 economic developers by Economix and is a frequent speaker and national thought leader on regional economic development. He was also named Small Nonprofit CEO of the Year by Columbus CEO magazine.

McDonald was instrumental in creating and leading the Columbus Region’s growth strategy when he was selected to lead Columbus 2020, a regional economic development group that was launched in 2010. Now known as One Columbus and housed within the Columbus Partnership, the organization is continuously ranked as one of the top 10 economic development organizations in the United States and represents a public-private partnership of more than 300 investors and partners from an 11-county area.

McDonald has served as chairman of the International Economic Development Council and is an active board member of the Champions of the Community/NCH Invitational, Columbus Regional Airport Authority, Experience Columbus, Ohio Business Roundtable, Ohio Excels, the Transportation Research Center, RTRX, and Ohio State University’s SciTech.

McDonald is a graduate of Dickinson State University, Georgia Southern University, the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma, and Harvard’s Young American Leaders program. He has been a Certified Economic Developer (CecD) for over 20 years. He is married with three children.
